6 Core Steps to Prevent Social Media Relapse

It can be tough to stay #offline in our modern world. There are so many temptations all around us, and it’s hard not to get swept up in the pressure of partying with friends or co-workers. But we have 6 tips that will help you stay #offline for your first year in recovery so you can truly enjoy this exciting new stage of life!

Make a commitment

It is said that only 10% of alcoholics maintain sobriety for good. A good reason for this is because they don’t realize how important staying sober actually is. Because social media is like an addictive substance, the same applies for users trying to stay #offline. If you want to stay in recovery and live your fullest & brightest life In Real Life (IRL), then make sure you really want it and remind yourself why you are doing it. You might also want to think about how you’re going to do it and how important it is to surround yourself with people who are #offline too.

Get rid of your negative friends

The people you choose as your circle will have a big influence on whether or not you use social media applications again. If they were using social media when you went #offline,

chances are they’ll eventually want you to engage in the social media application(s) again. If you re-download social media applications and/ or create a social media account again (relapse), it’s important that you get delete the platforms as soon as possible.

Join a recovery program

There are many different types of addiction recovery programs, but they all usually have the same goal: keep addicts from falling back into their old habits and make sure they maintain their sobriety for good. You might not need to go to these if you’re not interested, but it might be something worth looking into. They can help you know what to expect in your first year of being #offline and fully engaged IRL.

Stay busy

When addicts begin staying #offline, they usually experience ‘boredom’ for the first time in years. Therefore, even though you may feel like staying in your room and watching

streaming services or playing video games all day, stay active instead! Pick up a new hobby, contact old friends, exercise, and join a recovery program if you feel like you need it.

Hire a Coach

A coach is usually necessary for people who are fresh out of rehabilitation. The job of an #OfflineCoach is to help social media addicts through their first year in recovery, and sometimes they do it by telephone. They will also encourage you to stay #offline throughout your recovery and remind you why you want to engage In Real Life (IRL) and #offline. These coaches are great for helping social media addicts stay strong, directing them back on the road to recovery when they’ve made a mistake, and basically just being good mentors who can help you through anything.

Give up on the past

Many social media addicts are longing for the way things used to be during their addiction. They might even think about what it was like when they were using the social media applications. They may glorify the good times they had on the social media applications and neglect to remember why they went #offline in the first place including the traumas the applications caused their lives. These thoughts are extremely harmful and will keep you from moving forward and prospering with your life, so it’s imperative that you try and give social media up for good and abstain from using the apps for. Many Substance Abuse & Addictions Coaches motivate their clients to move ahead on your past and have a new restart.

The first year of Social Media Abstinence is challenging, but it’s well worth the struggle. The user will quickly learn how to manage your IRL one day at a time. By incorporating these tips into your daily routine, you can achieve long-term sobriety and live a happy life free from social media addiction and the destructive effects of social media.
